Over the years I have entered and have been successful in obtaining many awards, firstly as an amateur photographer where I gained acceptances in many national & international competitions such as the Australian Photographic Society Nationals and the International competition-Vigex.  Joining the Australian Institute of Professional Photography in 1998, I began entering the professional competitions in Victoria, Australia & New Zealand.  Being the recipient of many silver & gold awards I achieved Associate status in Australia in 2004 & in New Zealand in 2005.  I have won Runner Up Portrait Photographer of the Year in Victoria in 2005, Runner Up Landscape Photographer of the Year in Victoria in 2004 & 2009 & won the title of Illustrative Photographer of the Year in Victoria in 2005.

 

I immerse myself in the entire creative image making process… In the words of the famous American landscape photographer, Ansel Adams…"You don t take a photograph, you make it."
Making a photograph encompasses many stages, firstly I see, create & capture the image.  When shooting, I am visualising the finished image in my mind. At this stage, time ceases to exist…all that is real is what I see & feel for the image in creation.  With the image captured I select one of my techniques to express it.  Having originally worked in a darkroom for many years, I know the magic of watching a developing image appear.  These days my darkroom is now my computer which enables me to interpret & create my finished captured image.

 

The final stages of making a photograph includes deciding the medium upon which the finished image is to be printed.  This needs to reflect the style and feel of the image.  I print images on lustre, metallic & watercolour fine art textured paper.  Finally, display, showcase & share the created image to enjoy!!!
